Microsoft has been previewing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Android tablets to beta testers since last November, and today they are officially available in Google Play for all to use.
The preview generated more than 250,000 downloads in 110 countries, and it was TESTED on over 3,000 device variants. Microsoft says they designed these apps to be just as familiar to users of the desktop versions. Users will find the familiar Office ribbon and there are large touch points.
If you want to dive in, you will need an Android tablet 7-inches or greater, and larger than 10.1-inches will require an Office 365 subscription to create and edit. You will also need an ARM based processor (Intel chip support coming soon), at least 1 GB of RAM, and KitKat 4.4. It can be used on Lollipop, but Microsoft isn’t supporting it.
Personal users GET core editing for free, but you will need a qualifying Office 365 subscription for premium features. Commercial users will need Office 365.
