Samsung Knox is a complete security solution designed to make Samsung devices more stable and secure. It is a suite of applications that include anti virus and malware software as well as software that is designed for absolute privacy while using your device. Today, Knox was updated to 2.0, adding split billing, a dedicated app store, and a couple other tweaks.
Earlier this year, we got word from Samsung that they were planning on updating Knox with better features and a cloud-based application portal. Samsung is finally delivering today as the update can now be accessed via all Samsung Galaxy S5’s.
This update signifies a turning point in the Samsung service by officially becoming a “portfolio of multiple products and services”. The basic idea is that Samsung wants business professionals to feel comfortable using their devices for both personal and business matters.
A major step for this solution is the addition of split billing. This means that your single device can be connected to multiple carriers, your business carrier and your personal carrier. Then, you can have personal calls and data usage charged to your personal wireless bill, while business calls and data usage can be charged directly to your company.
Additionally, Samsung added Knox EMM and Knox Marketplace, two cloud-based services designed to make this whole process easier. Knox EMM is a simple service that will give your IT administrator the ability to remotely control your phone, convenient for maintenance and security issues. The Knox Marketplace now serves as a central location for users to install Knox services and applications.
For now, Knox 2.0 is only available on the Samsung Galaxy S 5. It is expected to be rolled out to additional devices in the coming months.
